East Finchley
London N2 9BB

A creative writing group perform readings based on local history.
A collection of quirky pieces inspired by a rummage through the archives kept at Barnet Local Studies Centre.
A nurse at the Finchley Memorial hospital looks back over her life at the time of World War 1;
A local lad recruited as code breaker exchanges letters with his sweetheart, and a glimpse of life behind the lace curtains in the Hampstead Garden Suburb.
The readings are spiced with snippets of local fact and fiction.
A clutch of talented writers and actors share their creative work, perhaps at the same time enlightening you a little about your local roots.

From July 12th  For Two Weeks
HADAS
Hendon and District Archaeological Society
Sunny Hill Park, Hendon NW4

For a period of two weeks, Hendon and District Archaeological Society (HADAS) will be undertaking a survey and excavation in Sunny Hill Park, Hendon.
A feature of the park is the remains of a complex second world war building of unknown purpose, but thought to be a bomb shelter or ARP (Air Raid Precautions) bunker.
This will be a joint project with University College, London (UCL), and will be part of the Council for British Archaeology's "Festival of Archaeology" for 2010.
Members of the public are welcome to come and observe the dig, and HADAS would also like to hear from anyone with historical information or memories of the facility from when it was in use.

Sunny Hill Park was opened by the council in 1922.
Sited on an open hillside boasting fantastic views, the park is popular with walkers.
The well used play area and sporting facilities provide recreational interest while the popular cafe provides an excellent focal point for the park.
